Spirit of Beacon Day Parade – Sunday, September 30th!

parade

South Avenue Elementary is participating in the Spirit of Beacon Day Parade happening this Sunday, September 30, 2018. This year’s Spirit of Beacon Day Parade theme is “Celebrating Unity”.

Please join us – children and their families are encouraged to march with South Avenue!

Where to meet: Our group will meet at 12:15 on Wolcott Ave (9D) near Rombout Ave. Look for our banner and colors! We usually get an exact meeting spot assigned that morning so check Facebook for updates. The parade starts at 1pm and runs the length of Main St. If you miss the beginning feel free to join us at any point in the parade.

What to wear: Your South Ave t-shirts! Or you can wear blue and/or yellow to match our school colors. If you’re on a sports team or Girl/Boy Scouts and want to wear a uniform that is welcome too!

What to bring: Water for your whole family, snacks, and wagons/strollers if you have little ones. Don’t forget to wear sunblock, bring hats/sunglasses if it’s a hot day.

A little bit about South Ave School’s float design:

We thank the amazing volunteer South Ave parents who designed and created South Avenue School’s “float”.

The Hudson River’s currents flow in two different directions. It is an ecosystem with differences that help it live as one, in unity. Our plan is to be a walking Hudson River, represented by two billowing sheets that will flow in the wind attached by poles held by adults or older kids.

Kids will carry signs with words on them that describe “Unity” (made by South Ave students). The signs are cut into the shape of an arrow to illustrate the different direction of the currents flowing in the Hudson River.

We need YOU to show unity. Consider marching with us on Sunday, September 30, 2018. You could hold a sign, or just walk! Wear your South Avenue Spirit wear or navy blue and/or yellow clothes (those are the colors of South Avenue Elementary).
