What do I wear?
The Color Dust is made of corn starch and easily washes out of most fabrics. However, it’s best to wear clothing you don’t mind getting messy or stained – just in case.
What if I’m scared of the Color Dust or don’t want it thrown at me?
Lots of kids prefer to run and choose when to have color thrown at them. We have lots of space and it’s easy to avoid having it thrown at you. Just wave before approaching a color station and say “I don’t want color!” or you can choose to have it lightly tossed at your shirt.
What is the Color Dust made of?
Our Color Dust is non-toxic, 100% safe and is bio-degradable. It is NOT meant for consumption. As with any substance, you will want to keep our color dust out of eyes and lungs. We will have first aid available in the event dust does get in your eyes and needs to be washed out. We also advise wearing a bandanna over your mouth to avoid breathing in dust.
This is a family fun run – there are no winners or losers. Some people run fast and try to get covered in as much color as possible. Others take their time and just enjoy being outside having fun! The run is over when we run out of color (usually around 12:45pm).
What happens after the race?
We make sure everyone is back at South Ave School playground and then have a grand finale Color Blast where everyone with color packs can throw them in the air and make sure they’re really covered in color. Someone from the PTA will count down the Color Blast over the speakers. We will then announce raffle winners and prizes can be collected. After that you’re welcome to stay and help us clean up while the kids play on the playground 🙂
Why are we having a Color-a-Thon?
The South Ave PTA relies on fundraising events to be able to support our school. In the 2018-2019 school year we have purchased new playground equipment, purchased classroom supplies for teachers, and paid for several school assemblies and field trips. The Color-a-Thon is one of our biggest fundraisers of the year and your registration fees directly benefit South Ave. It’s also super important that we grow our wonderful community and events like this are fun for our families at South Ave and other Beacon schools!
